Tom Moore completed 100 laps of his garden to raise money to help those struggling because of the virus. He was aiming for a thousand before his 100th birthday on the 30th April 2020 but he far surpassed his goal.

Image of Tom in his garden. Screenshot of just giving page showing he raised 32 million, 796 thousand, and 357 pounds to help NHS charities.

Tom’s walk inspired 90 year old Margaret Payne to climb her 17 stairs a total of 282 times – 2,398 feet – to raise money. You can still donate to her campaign here.

I’d love to see your sunshine and sparkles…. please write, or share.

  1. Thank you for sharing more of the wonderful story regarding Tom Moore (and Margaret Payne). Sir Captain Tom (as he is now) is without doubt a marvellous human being, the way he captured the imagination of so many to raise essential funds for the NHS. I did read that he said at the end of his now famous charity walk re COVID-19: “The sun will shine on you again, and the clouds will go away.” Such a lovely message in itself.

  2. Sir Captain Tom Moore has been one of the biggest blessings for me this year, and for many others too. What an inspiring man! I watched a t.v. programme about him and his father and grandfather were wonderful people too. God bless him!

  3. It’s amazing both what he achieved with his walking & the amount of money raised, absolutely incredible. He has been able to bring the country together and provide motivation at a time when we need it the most, despite all of the bad news and selfish actions of others in the world right now. It’s sad I’ve not read much about Margaret Payne though, hopefully we’ll hear more about her in the mass media too!

I hope you’re having a restful weekend, Eliza xx
